Dar Akal · Marrakech Medina
The Riad, from courtyard to rooftop.
Behind the door, the house rises in layers: the cool courtyard, rooms and galleries, then the open rooftop.
The story of the house
A house restored, not reinvented.
Dar Akal is an 18th-century riad, carefully restored by architect Christophe Simeon and Moroccan craftspeople using traditional techniques.
Inside Dar Akal
Three levels, one house.
-
The courtyard
The centre of the house.
Trees, a fountain and open galleries bring the rooms together around a cool, quiet centre. It is where the house begins and where the day keeps returning.
-
Rooms & details
Arches, painted ceilings and places to pause.
Move through carved openings into sitting rooms and bedrooms with their own colours and details. Above, the gallery keeps every part of the house connected to the courtyard.
-
The rooftop
One last flight, then open sky.
The terrace opens around the pergola and rooftop pool. It is a place for the warmer hours, a slower afternoon and the softer light at the end of the day.
